Accessibility Settings For Mac

Accessibility Settings For Mac 8,1/10 3124 reviews

Apple has often put an emphasis on how accessible its technology is to everyone, building in features across its devices for all sorts of accessibility needs. For instance, if your vision is impaired, tools like VoiceOver can help you navigate your device using audio guidance. But these efforts aren't restricted to your iPhone or Mac. Apple has brought accessibility to the Apple Watch, too. Whether you need to zoom in on a part of the screen to see it better, or you need VoiceOver to help you navigate the watch, this guide will help us set up and use the accessibility features on the Apple Watch.

How to set up and customize VoiceOver on Apple Watch

The accessibility permissions are stored in a sqlite database file at /Library/Application Support/com.apple.TCC/TCC.db. Since sqlite3 is shipped by default with the later Mac OS X', use it to modify the settings.

With VoiceOver, those who have vision difficulties can still use Apple Watch. In doing so, simple gestures are used to move around the Apple Watch screen while a VoiceOver narrator speaks each time an item is selected.

How to set up and use Zoom on Apple Watch

To better aid those who need greater visual accessibility, Zoom lets you set a default magnification level for the Apple Watch but also adjust it dynamically. For those with visual impairments or partial blindness, it can make what are otherwise small, hard to see screen elements bigger and easier to see.

How to use other visual accessibility features on the Apple Watch

There are a number of other accessibility features on the Apple Watch which are aimed at helping those with visual accessibility needs, from dynamic font adjustment to reduced motion and transparency.

Updated July 2019: Updated through watchOS 5.2.1.

In the example of Messages, when you click Messages in the menu bar, you have the option to switch from 'Available' to 'Away' and these are denoted by colored bubbles (green for Available, red for away), but by enable Differentiate without color, you'll see a green circle and a red square instead, which is a boon to color blind folks.

Reducing transparency helps your Dock and desktop icons stand out more and also makes the top menu bar opaque so that you can clearly see all your app icons and menu items.

  1. Click the Apple menu on the top left of your screen.
  2. Click System Preferences.
  3. Click Accessibility.

  4. Click Display in the menu on the left.
  5. Click the checkbox next to Reduce transparency.

  1. Click the Apple menu on the top left of your screen.
  2. Click System Preferences.
  3. Click Accessibility.

  5. Click and drag the slider next to Display contrast to increase or decrease.

How to change cursor size and enable/disable shake mouse pointer to locate

Apple occasionally offers updates to iOS, watchOS, tvOS, and macOS as closed developer previews or public betas for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac (sadly, no public beta for the Apple Watch). While the betas contain new features, they also contain pre-release bugs that can prevent the normal use of your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, or Mac, and are not intended for everyday use on a primary device. That's why we strongly recommend staying away from developer previews unless you need them for software development, and using the public betas with caution. If you depend on your devices, wait for the final release.

In the upcoming macOS Catalina update, the ability to change the curse size and enable/disable shake mouse pointer to locate has been moved to a new tab in the Accessibility Display properties. Currently, this function is located on the main Display page.

Changing the cursor size:

  1. Click the Apple menu on the top left of your screen.
  2. Click System Preferences.
  3. Click Accessibility.

  4. Click Display in the menu on the left.
  5. Click on the Cursor tab on the right side of the screen.
  6. Click and drag the slider next to Cursor size.

How to enable/disable shake mouse pointer to locate:

If you can't find your mouse cursor on your screen, you can enable the shake feature and your mouse cursor will get bigger when you shake your mouse.

  1. Click the Apple menu on the top left of your screen.
  2. Click System Preferences.
  3. Click Accessibility.

  4. Click Display in the menu on the left.
  5. Click on the Cursor tab on the right side of the screen.
  6. Click the checkbox next to Shake mouse pointer.
