Many of today’s most popular Internet browsers now block the technology that clientless SSL VPN's used to provide a network connection onto the corporate network. For this reason IT Services recommend installing and using the BIG-IP Edge Client to gain access to the UEA VPN. The process is quick and simple and provides a greater user experience once setup.

First time use #

To download and install the BIG-IP Edge Client you’ll need to connect to the VPN homepage, where the install files are available for you to download.

1. Open your favourite Internet browser and browse to https://vpn.uea.ac.uk
2. You’ll now be redirected to a standard UEA Authentication screen – if you’ve logged onto Office 365 then this may look familiar to you.
3. Enter your UEA credentials in the format username@uea.ac.uk and click ‘Sign in’ to continue.
4. You’ll now be logged into the VPN homepage where you can download the Edge Client. Select the 'F5 Edge (Mac)' option.
5. Install the 'mac_edgesvpn.pkg' found in the 'BIGIPMacEdgeClient' folder in your downloads folder.
6. Once installed the Edge Client can be found under the Applications list.

Connecting via the Edge Client #

With the client installed you can now connect to the VPN.

1. Launch the Edge Client.
2. Click ‘Add New Server’ and enter https://vpn.uea.ac.uk
3. Verify the server and Add it to your server list.
4. Click 'Connect' and the Edge Client will connect to the VPN where you’ll be prompted for your username and password. Enter your username in the format username@uea.ac.uk
5. Scroll down the window and click ‘Sign in’
6. The client minimises to the menu bar and you should now be connected to the VPN.

Disconnecting #

When you’re finished using the VPN it’s important to remember to disconnect.

1. Open the client – using the status menu in the menu bar.
2. Click Disconnect.

Appendix #

Anti-Virus #

In some cases it has been seen that an exception for https://vpn.uea.ac.uk needs to be added into Anti-Virus software in order for the client to connect. Symptoms of needing this are constant client reconnections. Please check with you Anti-Virus vendor on how to achieve this. Canon software.

On the File menu, select Export Outlook for Mac Data File. Choose to filter by category or item type. Install the Software

Windows

1. Download the software.
2. 'Next' through it all to install it.
3. You may be prompted to restart your computer; please do so.

OSX

1. Download the Zip file.
2. Extract the contents of the file by double-clicking it.
   1. A folder should appear by the same name.
3. Open the folder then double-click on the mac_edgesvpn.pkg file to start the installation.
4. Click through to finish the installation.
5. The software will be installed in your Applications folder as Brown VPN
